We are an architecture practice of 46 people designing libraries, housing, workplaces and civic buildings, drawn on a strict grid and built to outlast their first use.

Quiet buildings, precisely made.
We start every project with a measured survey and a single question: what does this place need that it does not already have? The answer is usually smaller, calmer and more durable than the brief expected.

Grid before gesture
A clear structural grid lets a building change use three times without losing its character.

Material that ages
Concrete, brick, timber and lime. Things that look better after thirty winters, not worse.

Carbon counted
Every scheme carries an embodied-carbon budget from the first sketch to the last detail.

New buildings, extensions and retrofits from feasibility to handover: libraries, housing, workplaces and civic halls.

Masterplans, design codes and area strategies for towns, waterfronts and campuses, written to survive four elections.

Parks, streets, courtyards and water landscapes, designed with soil, planting and rainfall as the starting material.

Interiors that belong to the building: joinery, lighting, material palettes and furniture for the spaces we design.

Retrofit & reuse
Low-carbon reuse of existing structures. We measure what can stay before we draw anything new.
Monolyth drew the library we did not know how to ask for: fewer rooms, better rooms, and a reading hall that fills with light at four in the afternoon.
